I think I know what you're talking about. I have one of those constantly near both of my thumbs. I just bite them off, even if they peel down to my elbow.

I cause them because I tend to put my hands inside my jean pockets a lot so i am constantly rubbing them for worse. Plus i tend to bite them off too. *coughs*
